The first thing we want to do when days get longer and sunsets prettier is enjoying the parks in Berlin with friends and loved ones. And what’s better than combining that with some good food and wine on the side. Nothing is better than a good picnic with some good company. And since we can’t help with the company, we will share with you the 101 ideas for the perfect picnic. Take notes.
There is an overwhelming number of spacious green parks and romantic lakes in Berlin, so picking the perfect spots for you is almost impossible. We share with you our personal favorites: Tiergarten enchants with beautiful meadows, charming paths and playful lakes that invite you tosit down and enjoy the day under the shades of trees. Because of its central location it’s also great for a sightseeing tour before or after. Fun fact, you can rent a boat and have a picnic almost as if you were overseas. Not too far is the Volkspark Friedrichshain, the oldest park in Berlin with plenty of history that gives it an almost magical atmosphere. It offers a perfect location for sportive activities and welcomes big groups or families. A completely different vibe is the Mauernpark with a vibrating young atmosphere surrounded by graffiti and street art performers. There is a flea market and plenty of events. Our personal favorite is the Tempelhof. The former airport field turned into a long stretched green garden with groups of people enjoying their moments in the evening sun, drinking wine, and sharing stories. There are BBQ areas and urban gardening that is worth a visit. For first dates, we recommend the Viktoria Park, a romantic spot right next to the Tempelhof. Here you can enjoy the presents of big trees and waterfalls with less people around you. Also perfect for sunsets. Finally the Insel der Jugend, an island in the east of Berlin. Only accessible by a bridge, this spot is a real hidden jam. If you want to go for drinks afterwards there’s a laid-back bar on the island just for that. Perfect for long warm evenings.
To prepare the perfect picnic there are a few things you want to keep in mind. Starting off with a picnic basket that does not only look pretty but does the job of carrying all the necessities. Prepare blankets that can get stained and to make it extra cozy bring pillows and more blankets. Even some fairy lights or flowers to make it fancier. The essentials like plates, glasses and cutlery are a must and preferably take disposable ones to not get hung up on it afterwards. Keep in mind to bring a tray or something stable for glasses, a cutting board with a knife and don’t forget the bottle opener. Maybe a board game, books, or some good music for the good vibes. Some parks also offer great entertainment and even open-air cinemas, so look out for those.
If you don’t want to just order pizza, we have some great Pinterest friendly suggestions for you. If you have some people to impress and you want to play it safe, go for the charcuterie board. It’s not much cooking but mainly assembling different cheeses with meats, some grapes, and fancy spreads. Baguette and bread sticks marry perfectly with it. What about some white wine to make this evening French. Same works for an Italian themed picnic. Homemade focaccia, mozzarella balls, olives and some prosciutto. Add some aperol spritz as aperitif and tiramisu for dessert and everyone will love you.
You planned to have a picnic with your friends on Sunday but it’s Saturday night and you only have onions in your fridge? We got the solution for you. It’s a picnic delivery and its located all over Berlin. We dogged into it and found three amazing concepts that offer just that. No need to cut onions. One of them is Picnic, a platform that does just that. You can assemble your own picnic basket with a list of snacks and foods to choose from. To make it even more special, you can order decorations or let them prepare the whole venue themselves so you can surprise your partner. A similar concept is Barcomi's picnic. Here they give you several picnic options to choose from, so you don’t have to worry about the food at all. They cover all kinds of picnics from breakfast picnics to antipasti or lunch baskets. Another great concept is Salumeria Italiana, which is originally a stand in Markthalle 9 that turns into your own personal picnic basket. And each week changing menu offers you great Italian foods for a family lunch or a cent per 2. Be aware, they only deliver in Kreuzberg.
