Berlin Design Week is a unique rendezvous where designers, studios, collectives, brands and institutions from all over the world gather to showcase their ideas, embracing the concept of design not only as an aesthetic pursuit, but rather as a combination of technology, creativity, sustainability, and business.
This year, about 18.000 visitors are expected to explore the numerous exhibitions, showrooms, product presentations, pop-up stores, workshops – and even more – that are scheduled throughout the week. While the event takes place at different places across Berlin, its main location is the Peter-Behrens-Bau in Oberschöneweide. This 2024 edition of Berlin Design Week also represents the last opportunity to experience the “monument of Berlin’s modern industrial culture” in its original state. Just a few days after the event ends, construction will begin on what is now the biggest urban development project of Berlin: the establishment ofa sustainable neighborhood on the Behrens Uffer.
For the seventh edition ofthe Berlin Design Week, on the theme “Insights”, participants were encouraged not only to present their projects and products but also to offer the public a glimpse behind the scenes of their creative processes and development, which promises to take visitors right to the heart oftomorrow's design innovations.
On April 27, the Berlin Design Week will start with guest speeches (you can find the lineup here) and a guided tour of the exhibitions. An open networking session with food and drinks will follow. This kick-off event is the perfect opportunity to meet Berlin’s designers as well as international experts ofthe field.
With DESIGN+SCIENCE (April 27 – May 5), the research on both design and technology aims to solve and answer today’s and tomorrow’s problems in terms of energy, food, urban development and art and culture. It places design as a central aspect ofeveryday life. On May 2 and 3, Berlin Design Nights will welcome visitors to the studios in the evening for small exhibitions and a moment ofexchange and networking.
On April 27 and 28, temporary showrooms will display national and international designers products at the Design Pool. There you will be able to find home goods and lifestyle accessories.
The format “Next Young European Design” will also be held from April 27 to May 5 at the Kunstgewerbemuseum. In collaboration with EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) and the Kunstgewerbemuseum, this event offers an ideal opportunity to discover emerging talents on the European design stage. A vernissage will take place on April 26, followed by a series ofdesigner talks on April 27.
