When I first arrived in Berlin after some initial professional adventures in NRW, I had only my dreams, passion, and love for my Sicilian heritage… and a lot of willingness to make things work! Sicily gave me my roots, but Berlin gave me opportunities.
I remember clearly my first days walking around Berlin, impressed by the culture, diversity, and openness of the people. Berlin felt welcoming right from the start - like a city that encouraged me to pursue my dreams.
When the opportunity came to take over Ristorante Poveracci at Torstrasse – yes, it was there for many years, but we completely transformed Poveracci to what it is today – I felt like it was our way of honoring our Sicilian roots - a simple and authentic place. Why do I say our? Because this is not only me – it is me, my father, my brother, my sister, and my mother!
Each dish we serve tells a story from my hometown, mixing Sicilian tradition with Berlin's international vibe. Seeing people enjoy our food and atmosphere reminds me why I started this journey - to connect with others through genuine experiences with food.
Berlin has allowed me to grow personally and professionally. I had the chance to collaborate with iconic venues like Soho House, host pop-ups with Gelati Poveracci, and work with brands like Ruinart and Martini. Each step showed me that dreams become reality through hard work and community support. The love of people!
What surprised me most about Berlin is how loving and supportive the community is - not only to me but also to my whole family. We are profoundly grateful! On my recent birthday, I was touched by how many people remembered and reached out, even though I hadn't announced it publicly. Moments like these remind me that Berlin is not just where my business is, but also a place that shaped who I am.
Berlin showed me the power of dreams and taught me that being genuine and passionate can create something truly special.
My journey continues, and I look forward to what lies ahead. I'm grateful for everything Berlin has given me and will always celebrate and preserve my Sicilian heritage in this amazing city.Grazie mille!
