The summer weather that finally graced the city, coupled with last weekend’s Gallery Weekend Berlin, provided a true dopamine boost for us Berliners. Locals who are finally back in their tank tops, shorts, and sunglasses took to the streets for art walks, visiting galleries and soaking up everything the Bundesstadt has to offer. Just like last year, The Columbist teamed up with Better Go South Gallery. Ultimately, on Sunday, May 3rd, an exclusive Art Lunch brought people together to both experience the “No Face No Case” exhibition and see the Columbist community go live.
With its core mission to support and bridge emerging and young artists with the South, the Berlin- and Stuttgart-based Better Go South Gallery presented a group exhibition reflecting the city's dynamism, subculture, and true essence for the new season.
"No Face No Case" interprets graffiti as both a visual language and a cultural practice, examining it both from the outside and the inside through perspectives like hierarchy and internal coding that have shaped the city's cultural fabric since the 80s.

Can a new visual approach to Berlin be imagined? What dynamics are involved in perceiving graffiti as a structured, high-level visual system beyond labels like "vandalism"? Positioned between immediacy and deliberation, graffiti gains a new narrative in this exhibition, moving beyond the conventional perception of "spontaneous practice" through complex references, individual styles, and site selection.
Hosting artworks in various forms, the exhibition, according to Better Go South Gallery, is not here to define graffiti, but to propose a renewed engagement with the visual culture that shapes Berlin's urban condition. There is, undoubtedly, a crucial element for this collective world that feels the city's pulse: Community.
It is the community that reads, interprets, and consumes this visual world shaped by collectives and customized by individual styles, adapting it back into the urban condition. This is exactly where The Columbist stepped in: with our diverse community, we presented a Berlin microcosm to an exhibition about Berlin, transforming our Art Lunch into a true interactive Berlin space.

The transition from brunch hour to lunch began with the very boost every Berliner art lover needed this weekend: Energy! Our food partner, goodmoodfood, was at the gallery to provide exactly that with their delicious cacao snacks and drinks: all healthy, sustainable, and natural superfoods. Based on the simple belief that what we eat shapes how we feel, this Berlin-based brand’s “From Source to Soul” philosophy resonated perfectly with the multi-layered structure of the “No Face No Case”.
As guests explored the space, they enjoyed a natural lift with Cashew Clusters (crunchy bites of raw cacao nibs and coconut blossom nectar) and the intense, slightly fruity Queen Beans. For those seeking a balanced introduction to the world of raw cacao, the Sweet Nibs provided the perfect mix of gentle bitterness and soft sweetness.
However, the truecenterpiece of the afternoon was the Cacao Shots. Served both sweet and spicy, these shots offered a direct, ritual-like experience of raw cacao. Unlike conventional cocoa, being unroasted allows it to preserve its original character, rich in minerals and flavanols. Rather than a quick caffeine rush, it provided our community with a sense of calm focus and mindful energy. These shots were more than just a drink; they became a shared moment, inviting everyone to pause, connect, and embrace a truly happy, healthy, and wholy experience together.

After bonding over the flavor and energy of raw cacao, our guests embarked on a mini culinary tour before moving into the main exhibition space. HALO Bagels, an innovative bakery on Auguststraße whose terrace will soon be the place to be, delivered an unforgettable touch to the palate with a diverse selection of bagels, featuring scallion spread, za'atar spread, smoked salmon, tuna spread, and umami chicken. Complementing this, Brammibal’s Donuts, one of the city’s favorites, added a sweet note with their entirely vegan creations, while ice-cold ROY Kombucha provided a refreshing and chill experience throughout the talks.
The Columbist’s art editor, Beatrice Sacco, hosted two distinct sessions on-site to unpack the exhibition’s texture. The first, featuring gallery co-founder Michael Preuss and director Antonia Pentos, discussed the urban heritage and commitment to young talent that Better Go South represents. This was followed by an artist talk with Lukasz Furs, an artist represented by Better Go South with a solo exhibition in the space, where ideas were exchanged over art that challenges contemporary notions of creativity and aesthetic appreciation.
Art is, without a doubt, an inseparable part of Berlin’s urban identity. Gallery visits, especially during the summer season, are an essential layer of this experience. Yet, what truly makes every experience in this magical city special is the community. On the occasion of this Gallery Weekend, The Columbist curated an autonomous event at Better Go South, bringing together real-life interactions, new horizons, ideas, and flavors. Until then, “No Face No Case” at Better Go South is on view through May 29th.
