Fresh and full of flavor, ceviche has everything you need for the perfect summer evening. This dish, made from raw fish, is considered the national dish of Peru, where each region has its own unique version. In fact, it is even recognized by UNESCO as an expression of Peruvian cuisine.Â
Â
Ceviche can be made with different types of fish, depending on the season and personal preference. Unlike most other dishes, the fish is not usually prepared in this way: the acidity in the marinade almost 'cooks' it by denaturing the proteins. This technique is completely different to anything we know in German cuisine. The combination of fresh fish, enhanced by the acidity of the lemon and the light spiciness of the chilli pepper, makes ceviche a true summer dream. Traditionally, the fish is served with sweet potatoes and red onions, often topped with coriander. And yes, you can even find this unique dish in Berlin. We’ve selected five great spots where you can enjoy these Peruvian flavors.
