You spent two days at Berghain and now you want to catch up on all the food you didn’t eat? Comfort food. You message on bumble but the moment you see the blind date in real life you know it’s not going to happen? Comfort food. The list goes on. This May calls for comfort and what better than filling the hole with good food. Now imagine all that but vegan.
Most of the following places are indeed vegan, however they don’t need the vegan label, since they are simply just as good as the non-vegan option. Just don’t tell your friends it’s vegan and they won’t even realize. Less talking, more eating. Keep in mind that we cannot mention them all and even though we chose our personal favorite that doesn’t mean the others aren’t as good.

Disclaimer it’s juicy!
Burger is what you want to eat on your first date to show him who you really are. And if he shares his fries, he’s a keeper. A good vegan burger is probably the best thing there is, it almost makes you feel like you’re eating healthy. Maybe not a superfood but only the best ingredients and homemade sauces is what Vegd stands for. In 2019 Andre started Vegd as a ghost kitchen that later turned into a burger hotspot. With huge success and a determination to become the best, Vegd is now situated in three locations and one franchise. We visited the store at P-berg and sat at the big window watching the trams and people pass by. They also have a little outdoor space, perfect to enjoy the evening sun rolling into the streets while you enjoy your burger, almost nostalgique. Finger licking, burger dripping romance.
Our favorite: The smashed Vegd with its incomparable meatiness.

We also want to mention Neue Republik Reger, a restaurant that needs to be included. What differentiates them so much from everyone else is not what they say but more what they don’t say. Neue Republik Reger is less known for its charged and juicy vegan burger but because of its genuine great food and bar vibes. The bar has a little stage offering all kinds of events like cinema nights, drag shows and bingo. This place is a true hidden jam.
Our favorites: The regulars order the cheesy burger but the angry crowd burger with its vegan Leberkäse is just as genius.

If you’re looking for something less messy but just as carbi we recommend pizza. The perfect food to share with friends while planning your night out or trash talk the people at the club you went to. Neukölln got your back and offers a small tucked away pizzeria right at Leinenstraße. La Stella Nera is a true star of the vegan community and known by any food lover. When we arrived, the pizzaioli were bringing out some beautiful fluffy Napoleon pizzas, one more colorful than the other. None of them give the impression that they are vegan, yet homemade vegan cheese and homemade spicy seitan sausage play the main character here. Aside from pizzas with red and white bases, Stella Nera offers antipasti and desserts. The terrace is mostly busy but when finding a free spot, you can enjoy the pizza with some summer evening vibes and if it gets too cold, they give you blankets.
Our favorite: their Capperi e Olive and the Spinach Bianca with homemade ricotta (amazing!)

Vietnamese is for us the true comfort food. The freshness of each product, the comforting heat of the broths, and the love to detail in each component is what it needs to warm our hearts. Right in front of the Hasenheide you find Chay Long, big trees hiding an almost garden looking terrace, perfect for passing hours eating yourself happy. Joining the atmosphere we sat down with Mi, who told us all about their beliefs and traditions that lie in the foundation of Chay long. Coming from an almost fully vegan family, the creation of the restaurant came almost naturally. The family-owned business offers the true “authentic” Vietnamese experience with dishes you find nowhere else. Mi is passionate with the cuisine and doesn’t shy back to put more traditional dishes on the menu. Their kitchen consists of cooks from all over Vietnam, bringing all kinds of dishes onto the menu. We could really feel the pride in what they present and the compassion the family brings with it.
Our favorite: the Pyramide dumpling, which is a dumpling made of rice flour, wrapped in a banana leaf, and filled with all kinds of vegetables.

If ever the weather becomes as sunny as we all long for, sushi is the way to go. Imagine a hangover Sunday with the sun burning down on your already buzzing head. All you need in that case is something that doesn’t make your tummy flip and a cold lemonade. Emira has both. We met with Teyun, the owner of Emira, who shared with us the story of her husband who had to become vegan because of his cholesterol. Teyun had to rethink their eating habits and started creating vegan food with no limits. Teyun avoids meat alternatives and instead uses special vegetables, tofu and swears on vegan tuna and vegan salmon. Many different rices have been tested by her husband to find the ideal rice with the right consistency. All of the lemonades are homemade and with unique techniques and outstanding flavours. We’ve never had something alike. Their backstory is just as impressive as their interior. We were sitting on glass tables that make you look down on a little grass landscape. The food was presented on a wooden board with steam coming from a pot in the middle. A real experience.
Our favourite: Everything is absolutely delicious but definitely take a homemade lemonade with it. The salt preserved lime with ginger and agave syrup lemonade is a must!
